The Read-up Program starts early each school year. Children may take quizzes this year in their classrooms when their teachers allow them to do so..  Please encourage your child to read for pleasure each evening. Ask your child  how many points he/she has earned this year. The Read-up list is on the District 67 website under "Parent Information-Accelerated Reader-Hynes".

Child's Play Touring Theatre will perform early 2009 as a culminating activity to our young author program. It is a wonderful program supported by the District 67 PTA.It is not too early to help your child start brainstorming about what kind of story they would like to write next year. They could write a collection of stories and compile them in a notebook. They may choose to write about something that actually happened to them or write a fanciful story. The story should have a definite beginning, middle and end and be neatly written or typed. A frequent mistake is that children often times think that a story must be lengthy. On the contrary, a story that is short and sweet, but has a point could be terrific. If you have any questions, please call me at extension 118 at Hynes.
