Dear Families,
Letter M and Sight word
Last week we concentrated on the letter Mm. The children laughed every
time we talked about our alphafriend Mimi Mouse. Throughout the week we
identified words and pictures that begin with /m/. We also reviewed previous
letters we’ve learned. Additionally, we introduced a new sight word this
week, see. This is our second sight word. The children are becoming very
good at recognizing the sight words in print. When you are reading to your
child see if he or she could detect the sight words in a book! This is
exciting for you and them. Another great way to practice learning the sight
words is to have the children make them out of play dough. This is also a
great way to practice making the letters and identifying their sounds.
Fire Safety
This week firefighter Bill came to our class to talk about what a firefighter
looks like in his or her uniform. Firefighter Bill taught use to never hide
from a firefight. Next week he is going to teach us about stop, drop, and
roll. Please review and complete the worksheet with your child so they can
feel confident they know what to do if there is ever an emergency situation.
Math
In math we have begun to learn how to form and recognize our numbers 1-3
this week. This is an vital skill for the children to know. With each of
our math units the children will have to know how to write the numbers and
identify how many objects equal a specific number. Therefore, it is
essential for you child to be able to correctly form and identify
numbers. At this time we are going to concentrate on numbers 1-10. In a few
weeks we will continue to teach the children how to write 11-20. By the end
of the year we expect the children to be able to properly write numbers 1-
20. As for counting we expect the children to be able to count from 1-100.
We practice counting everyday! Please continue to go over these skills with
your child at home. The reinforcement at home is a tremendous help to your
child. Thank for always supporting your child.
Hynes Musical Festival
The Hynes Music Festival is Thursday, October 22nd! The children have been
practicing in music class with Mrs. Blanchard. The songs the children are
singing this year are very cute. I am sure you will hear your child singing
them at home because I have definitely heard them in the hallways of
Hynes. :) Don’t forget to save the date!
Weather
Fall has arrived! The leaves are beginning to change color and the air is
brisk. Please remember to dress your child for the weather. We are
anxiously awaiting the new playground to be finished and cannot wait to go
outside for recess again. Please contact me if you have any questions or
concerns.
Best wishes,
Ms. Roos :)
