Suggested Book Titles For Emergent Readers
These books can be used in a variety of ways. Read them aloud to your child multiple times. Have fun with both the language play and the illustrations. Discuss the story plot that the language conveys, but more importantly focus on the sounds the words create. Draw your child's attention to the rhyming patterns, initial sounds, nonsense words, mixed-up sounds, etc. Have them echo you as you read, or choral read it together. Repeated exposure helps children notice the sound features in our language. This in turn prepares them better for reading and spelling.
