What specific services and supports are available in the classroom?

*Consultative services from the special educator or other staff.
*Special materials to use with the students.
*Inservice training on the needs of special students.
*Teacher aides or instructional assistants, when necessary.

How are academic tasks modified?

*Reduce the number of problems on a page.
*Use a highlight marker to identify key words, phrases or sentences for the 
student to read.
*Read tests/quizzes for the student.
*Use graph paper for math problems, handwriting, etc.
*Rewrite directions at a more appropriate reading level.

*Allow more time to take tests or quizzes.

What is the difference between short-term and long-term memory difficulties?

Short-term memory- An individual may be able to answer questions in class
immediately after a concept or skill is taught. However, by the time new
information is introduced, the old information has been forgotten.
Long-term memory- An individual will have no problem storing the information
in his/her memory, but will later have trouble recalling/retrieving the
information later as needed.

What is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD)is one of the most common
childhood disorders and can continue through adolescence and adulthood.
Symptoms include difficulty staying focused and paying attention, difficulty
controlling behavior, and hyperactivity(over-activity).
