About The Teacher

I have been an educator for over twenty years. During the
last fifteen years at Hadley Jr. High I have taught 6th, 7th and 8th
grade Language Arts/Reading, and 6th grade Social Studies

I have two teaching certificates, Type 06 and 09, which were earned at
Governors State University. I am certified to teach Kindergarten-9th grade-all
subject areas; I am also certified to teach 6th-12th grade English and Social
Science.

In 1999 I completed my Masters Degree in Educational Leadership through St.
Xavier University. During the past two years I have added an additional sixty
graduate hours to my teaching degree in the area of technology, reading,
social science, and language arts.

I live in the town of Darien. In addition to teaching, I enjoy spending time
with my daughter Sarah, her husband Armando, and my grandchildren:
Adrianna(15), Rebecca (8), and Matthew (6). Playing with my grandchildren,
teaching, reading, gardening, and being a lifelong learner are the activities
I enjoy.

Mission For The Class

My goal for the Social Studies class is to foster a deeper
understanding of how we learn. Using the art of communication as well as an
appreciation for the culture of other civilizations, past and present, we will
make connections that will help us understand the world we live in. I like to
incorporate collaborative and individual hands-on activities whenever possible.

Homework and Classwork
All classwork and homework are due on the date assigned. Assignments
will be explained on the first day of each week; they will also be available
on the Hadley Weekly Homework page; this can be found on my website too. The
entire Team's assignments are listed. Each student will be maintaining a
working Social Studies Portfolio, which will be used to monitor progress,
goals and will be used for student-led conferences after each unit of study.
This portfolio will need to be brought to class each day unless otherwise noted.

Homework assignments, classroom discussions, and coming prepared to class will
all be considered for assessment of effort. Quizzes, projects and tests will
be considered for academic assessment.

Remember to include reading assignments, and studying for exams as part of
your regular homework routine. Working equally hard on all tasks will almost
certainly guarantee a good grade.

TEXTBOOKS: Each student will be issued a textbook; this text will not need to
be brought to class-classroom textbooks will be provided.
