What do you teach?

I teach the Cultural Arts Program, which combines visual arts and music appreciation. The goal of
the Cultural Arts Program is to use history, geography, material exploration and a focus on the
Elements of Art to expose Hillel Torah students to the world of Fine Arts, both on a local and
global scale. I also teach 7th Grade Social Studies, where we study world history from the
Byzantine Empire through the Renaissance, exploring various lands and cultures throughout the
world.

In which classrooms do you teach?

The Cultural Arts classroom is located down the middle school hallway, up the stairs right next to
the Gymnasium. I teach Social Studies in room 19, next to Mrs. Gelbart's office.

How often do you teach?

The Cultural Arts Program is starting a new schedule this year. Students will come to class in a
rotating block schedule, where a grade will have art class once a week for several weeks in a row
and then rotate with other grades. The goal is have a little bit more of a flow for the art curriculum
from week to week allowing the students to connect better and finish assignments in a more timely
fashion.

What qualifies you to teach?

I received a double major from the University of Illinois in Painting and Art Education in 2004.
This is my second year at Hillel Torah, and my fourth year teaching in schools. I have a long
history in the Jewish community. As a child I participated in youth groups, spent many years
working in jewish day camps, and even lived in Israel for a year. I also love music and have 10+
years of experience with a number of instruments including guitar, bass, drums, mandolin, and
piano (barely!).
