Kindergarten

Kindergarten's first project of the year is centered around the season of Autumn. Students first
choose from four different types of trees, each one only a black outline. Then, using crayons,
students color in the sky, grass, and tree trunk. We emphasize coloring until complete, leaving
as little white space left as possible. Then the students use their fingers to paint leaves into the
left over space. Students make dots with each finger, choosing from green, red, orange, and
brown. The student continue painting until all the white space is now color, and then the project
is complete!

Come see the finished trees in between the two kindergarten classrooms. Happy Autumn!

First Grade

First Graders are working on an Origami landscape. First we folded Origami houses together and
then we decorated them with markers. To compete the project students are creating a
background for their houses using crayons. Come see the finished landscapes as soon as they
are complete on display in the galleries by the office and in the art room.

First Grade Primary Color Pattern Crocodiles are still on display near the library and upstairs in
the art room. Come see them before they head for warmer weather during the winter!

Second Grade

Second grade is working an Origami landscape. We started by folding an Origami boat together,
using diagram instructions. After the boats are folded, they will be decorated with marker and
then attached to larger sheet of paper where students will use crayons to create an aquatic
landscape.

Coming Soon! See the work in progress in the Second Grade Gallery.

Our Pattern Hand project is complete! Come see them on display near the second grade
classrooms as well as near Mrs. Levine's office. The students worked hard, and they look great,
so check them
out!

Third Grade

Third grade is working on the beginning stages of a group project called Radial Symmetry.
Students first create individual sketches using a grid and the concept of radial symmetry. First
they draw a shape of line in one corner of a grid and then mirror that mark three more times in a
circle. Confused? Well check out the examples soon to come in our Third Grade Gallery.

The Paper Weaving Projects are still on display in the Galleries near the office and upstairs in the
Art Room.

Fourth Grade

Fourth Grade just started their second block of art for the year and we began with a one-day
game. Students were separated into two groups, where they had to listen to parts of songs and
determine their origin, either from a movie or a television show. In addition to the song
identification there were Trivia questions to answer as well! As the fourth graders about it!

The Fourth Grade Renaissance-inspired door hangings are still on display in the Art Room!
Come check 'em out!

The Trading Card Contest is over. Check out all the contest winners in the Trading Card Gallery.
This year's participants created over 500 cards total, which made for some great trading and some
difficult contest judging. Nice job Fifth Grade!

Great work, gang!

We are quickly moving on to Chapter 2, which deals with the origins and history of the great
civilizations in Africa.
