BYZANTINE MOSAICS!
The first art project for the Seventh Grade
involves the first lesson learned in this year's
Social Studies Class.
Students first spent time reading about
Byzantine history and culture in their
Social Studies textbook. We then discussed
some of the people, places, and things associated
with the empire.
Working in groups the students were instructed
to come up with a simple sketch that represented
some aspect of the Byzantine Empire.
The students have experience making mosaics
last year, but not in groups. This time the students
will be working much larger and will need to
cooperate and plan as a group.
After agreeing upon a design, students redrew
their ideas onto a big board and proceeded to
use scrap construction paper to fill in the
mosaic design.
The key to a successful mosaic is that the space in
between the pieces remains consistent, no matter
the size and shape of the individual pieces. So far the
work looks great. Come by HIllel Torah soon to check
them out when they are complete.
