Radial Symmetry and Working in Groups!
The project starts with individual sketches. First the students are introduced to the concept of Radial Symmetry using many examples and then they must complete two color examples on design worksheets.
The worksheets consist of a grid of dots and two perpendicular lines that help guide the students while creating their designs.
After initially drawn in pencil, the students then add color symmetrically using crayon.
After each student completed two designs, each group had to then choose one design out of everyone's to enlarge and work on as a group.
The design chosen was supposed to be the design that best expressed the project.
Using a projected, the small design grid was then enlarged onto bigger paper. Using pencils, the students then recreated the initial design onto the larger paper.
The students then use water-based tempera paint to fill in the color.
Students will paint in layers, building up the surface to make the paintings look neater and more complete.
When finished, the paintings will be on display in the building. Come by and see the finished work soon!
