Week of October 20th
We have been very busy this week.  Our class took its first Vocabulary quiz on our own and did wonderfully!

We are also working on our Narrative Beginning.  The Introduction is due on Thursday, November 5th.   Remember, the beginning needs a lead.  A lead is like a hook.  What will capture the attention of your reader?  Then you need an introductory sentence for each body paragraph.  Finally, add your thesis.  What will your entire essay be about?

During the next week, we will examine and practice more beginning paragraphs in class as well as have individual meetings.  Bring your beginnings everyday.

These beginnings need to be typed.  12-14 legible font, double-spaced.

On Thursday, we will begin our first formal personal narrative essay.  The topic will be "The Jewish Person Who has Most Influenced my Life."  We will write each part separately, and then combine them for our final paper.

Week of September 21st
We will be working on our Narrative paragraphs.  Right now we learned how to brainstorm, list & squint, and organization.  Watch how these techniques help us write an organized norrative paragraph.

Also, we are reading and discussing Regarding the Fountain.  There are so many puns!

Finally, we are starting to learn how and where to use commas.  Watch for Grammar Gramps to help with this.

Finally, be sure to choose something to read for Fun Friday Reading.  The first ten minutes of class on Friday will be used for Fun Reading.

When we complete the book, we will be making our own fountains and writing letters to Rabbi Linzer.

Please send $5.00 for the book with your student.  We will be highlighting passages throughout the unit.

This week we will also begin our narrative writing which will incorporate our grammar unit.

It is very exciting to learn with you all.  Keep up the good work!
