Weekly Newsletter

Dear Third Grade Parents,

I hope that all the mothers enjoyed their “treasures of love” from
their children in honor of Mothers Day.

We worked hard this week and accomplished a lot. In math we are working on
double digit multiplication. Since our math facts are solid, it was a
simple transition.

After reading the story in our reader, Suki’s Kimono, we learned about Haiku
poetry. We are now writing our Haiku poems. Next week we are putting
together a class booklet of all our beautiful poems.

The class is continuing to read the book, Because of Winn Dixie. The
comprehension questions that accompany the chapters are thought provoking
and inspire good class discussions.

The work in our handwriting books are much improved. Proper posture and
correct form have been encouraged throughout the year.

The free choice book report is due Tuesday, June 2, 2009. The book report
form can be found on my webpage.

                         		Shabbat Shalom,
                                   Mrs. Renee Lifsics

Dear Parents,

Third graders are enjoying the challenge of their studies. Room 16 is
bubbling over with enthusiastic learners!

The date for the Award Winning Book Report is February 9th. The various
awards given to children's books include the Newberry, Caldecott, and Sydney
Taylor. Mrs. Rosen, our librarian, discussed the awards with the children
and
she has a selection of books for them to choose from. The book report form
will be given out this Friday.

Officer Trentidue visited our class today and discussed safety in the
home. Please ask your children to tell you what they learned about fire
safety and other ways to make your homes safe.

Reminder---the vocabulary test is on Thursday, January 29th, and the
spelling test in on Friday, January 30th.

In math, we have begun multiplication and are working on the tables of
2s
and 3s up to 3 X 10. Please practice with you children so that they become
proficient with these facts.

Please make sure to send snacks with your children since learning takes
a
lot of energy and they get hungry. Check with you child if he/she needs more
pencils or fresh markers.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns
since
your input is very important.

                                            Sincerely,
                                            Mrs. Renee Lifsics

Dec. 18, 2008

Dear Parents,

This has been a busy week for third grade. Much was accomplished in
our studies.

•	In reading, we worked on comprehension skills and sequential
building of a story.
•	We all wrote in our composition books about “Slurpees”. The class
created a story together in order to learn how to organize their thoughts,
and then they applied these skills to write their own story.
•	We learned about the metric system and how to better use a ruler.
•	I am proud of how well the students did on the vocabulary test.
After vacation, vocabulary quizzes will be every other week.
•	I am pleased with how well the students learned their geography
facts and it showed on their test scores.
•	The next book report which is a mystery is due on Monday, January
12, 2009. The form for this report was passed out earlier this week.

I encourage the children to read daily for enjoyment during vacation. Enjoy
your time together.

                                              Shabbat Shalom,
                                              Mrs. Lifsics
