Dear Parents,

We look forward to meeting with you at conferences this coming Monday November 23rd or Monday, November 30th.  Please remember that dismissal is at 1:30 p.m. this coming Monday, November 23rd with no aftercare and there are no sessions on November 30th.

Kindergarten was filled with many exciting activities this week.  Our letter of the week was B b as in balloon.  The class colored three balloons and used wicky sticks as strings for the cover of their letter books.  “Where Do Balloons Go?” by Jamie Lee Curtis made us think about what happens to balloons when they float in the air.  We also learned that brown bears live in Alaska and cubs stay with their mother for two years.  In computer class each child created a big blue box filled with bugs using the Kidpix program.  The class looked for the upper and lower case B b in silly sentences and wrote the upper case B using a big line and two little curves in their handwriting workbooks.

In honor of Rosh Chodesh the yeladim wore their Rosh Chodesh shirts and were treated to chocolate chip cookies by the Hillel Torah PTA on Wednesday.  During tefillot the class recited Hallel and took out the Torah.  For Parshat Toldot we prepared and cooked lentil soup on Wednesday morning and enjoyed it on Thursday.  Many of the school staff stopped by our classroom on Wednesday morning to discover the source of the irresistible aroma in the hallways!!  We learned why Yitzhak gave the bracha of the bechor to Yaakov instead of Aisav.  Please use the Parsha project to review the parsha with your child.  Morah Cheryl introduced the letter hey this week and the class colored a har (mountain) for their machbarot.

On Wednesday morning, Mrs. Goldberg, a docent from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra gave a presentation to the class to prepare them for our field trip on Friday.  She discussed rhythm, beat and showed some of the instruments that the yeladim will see on Friday.  She also taught all of us that when the conductor puts down his baton after a performance is the proper time to applaud.  We look forward to an enjoyable and educational trip to Orchestra Hall and would like to thank our parent volunteers, Mrs. Braun, Mrs. Schneiderman and Mrs. Rothner for their help on the trip.

The class was also very excited this week to complete our very first book of the “Mrs. Piggle Wiggle” series.  We are also very proud to report that our class filled up their tzedakah box for the second time this year.  The yeladim participated in counting the money and were very excited to discover that we collected $12.14.  We hand delivered our contribution to Mr. Shandalov who told the class he would be giving the tzedakah to poor people and thanked us for performing such an important mitzvah.

For our Thanksgiving feast next Wednesday, please send in a parve or dairy entrée and we will be supplying the rest of the meal.  The kindergarten classes will be treated to the special tastes of Thanksgiving.  We have been practicing our Thanksgiving songs during singing and learning more about how the Pilgrims settled in their new land.

The children are excited to play games with Mrs. Tarkieltaub when she comes to our classroom during the week and she will occasionally take a group of children to play educational games in her room.

Please note that we would appreciate that any email correspondence should be sent to both Morah Mendelsberg (susan.mendelsberg@hilleltorah.org) and Morah Cheryl (cheryl.rothstein@hilleltorah.org).  Thank you.

                                                                                    Shabbat Shalom,

                                                                                    Morah Mendelsberg
