The fourth graders have been hard at work on their state fair introduction
and climate paragraphs. Friday, January 8, the 4A section will be going to
the computer lab to type their paragraphs. Please make sure your 4A student
has their rough drafts ready to type tomorrow. 4B will be going to the
computer lab on Tuesday, January 12, to type their paragraphs. Please make
sure your student brings their state fair packet back to school so they are
able to work on it in school.

Today the fourth graders have begun working on State Fair! Please ask them
to show you the due dates for January in their assignment notebooks. I will
be holding on to their work so they do not lose anything, as fourth graders
are prone to do :) We also took our spelling pre-test and have begun our
weekly work in the workbooks. The fourth graders also interpreted line
graphs and made up their own scenarios for a line graph from the text book.
I have gone ahead and put the new spelling words up, along with important
State Fair dates.
Have a great day and stay warm!
December 10, 2009
Today the fourth graders learned what the mean of a set of data is and how to
find the mean. Both the 4A/B classes have measured their arm spans, and
heights, and have the find the means of their class. We have also extended
the due date for the narrative essay and it is now due on Monday, December
14, 2009. I have uploaded the rubric for the narrative essay and the
students will get a hard copy tomorrow. Have a great rest of your day and
stay warm!

Don't forget the steps to long division and you can use this simple mnemonic,
Does (Divide)
My (Multiply)
Sister (Subtract)
Burn (Bring Down)
Smores (Start Over)
What - This step asks "what number" times the divisor will give you the
number in the dividend, and shows multiplication as being the inverse
operation to division. For example if you were to divide 12,333 by 3, the
first step is to divide 12 by 3, or you can think "what times 3 will give me
12".
October 20, 2009
Today the students worked on categorizing their spelling words according to
the long a and long i sounds. We worked on the ai, eight, and ay spellings
along with the igh spelling. In math we worked on using our calculators and
long division. In social studies we practiced skimming and scanning for the
answers in the text, and preparing for our test on Thursday. We have been
practicing our writing skills with predicate exapanders and subject
expanders. Please ask us to write you a sentence and we can show you!
October 14, 2009

October 13, 2009
Welcome back! Please keep in mind there are no spelling words this week

Teacher Expectations
Behavior
Students are expected to behave in a manner which represents Hillel Torah and
themselves in the best light, in and outside of the classroom. This includes
maintaining a respectful and positive attitude towards the Hillel Torah
staff, each other, and themselves.
Academically
All assignments are to be turned in neatly, on time and to the best ability
of the student. If there is a missing assignment, the student will need to
fill out a missing assignment sheet (a copy has been attached), obtain a
parent signature, a teacher signature, and turn in the missing assignment to
receive partial credit. Every day an assignment is missing the student will
lose 10%. For example, if a 10 point assignment due on Tuesday is turned in
on Thursday, the maximum points the student can earn, will have dropped to
8. Should a student have an unexpected absence however many days they were
absent, they will have to make up the assignments. Prior arrangements can be
made to complete assignments due to an anticipated absence.
Classroom Rules and Regulations
Should any unacceptable behavior occur, a student-teacher conference will be
held. Second occurrence of the unacceptable behavior will result in a
conference with the student, teacher, and parent(s). On the third occurrence
of the unwanted behavior a meeting with the administration, teacher, student,
and parent(s) will be scheduled. The level of intervention is dependent upon
the behavior.
Communication
I welcome all communication via phone, email, or a scheduled meeting.
