Dear Parents,
We had an amazing beautiful fall week! The weather was sunny and bright and
we enjoyed the outdoors as much as possible. We continued to explore the
many colors and textures of autumn. Our water tables are filled with leaves
to feel and examine what we collected from around the school.
On Wednesday, Mrs. Jacoby came to school and read us stories about leaves and
fall. She read us Leaf Man and Nuts to You by Lois Ehlert She also taught
us the Gray Squirrel Song, which we will continue to practice. In both
classes we painted our squirrel shapes with gray paint and added white fluffy
tails (see the picture below). They will be hanging in our classrooms for
anyone who wants to come in and feed them some nuts. Thursday was a double
hitter day with Bookmobile and Coach Ben. Ben and Brett from Keshet came
again to play with the children.
This week’s Parsha is Vayera. We learned how Avraham and Sarah had an Ohel
(Tent) opened on all four sides to always welcome guests (Orchim). From this
week’s Parsha we learn about Hachnasat Orchim, the importance of greeting
guests. We learn this from the way Avraham greeted the three visitors who
came to do the mitzvah of Bikur Cholim. In each class the stories were told
through puppets, in Morah Lee’s class and in Morah Sandy’s class through a
special visit from Sarah (Morah Glimer) at the open tent. We learned that
Sarah laughed when the guests told her that she would have a child. The child
was born and his name was Yitzhak (laughter).
The children painted B’ruchim Habaim wall hangings for their homes. They
also decorated a phonebook, with each of the children’s pictures and phone
numbers so they can call to wish a classmate a Refuah Shleima if they are
sick or to arrange a play date.
To further demonstrate the mitzvah of Hachnasat Orchim, this Friday we are
having Yom Orchim. We look forward to greeting all the children’s special
guests. We have been practicing our very special Shabbat song presentation.
We also would like to extend a mazal tov to Jacob Friedman and his family who
are celebrating the birth of a new brother.
Shabbat Shalom,
Morah Lee, Morah Ashira & Morah Simcha
Morah Sandy, Morah Naomi & Morah Glimer
