Hello 5th grade families....... In Study Skills, we will start off the year learning about the strategies we use to comprehend text. Learning about these strategies in a direct way has been proven to increase comprehension in reading.
Visualizing seemed a natural for most of the 5th grade. We covered the strategy of visualization first in Study Skills.
This past week we focused on CONNECTIONS. Children make personal connections with the text by using their schema (background knowledge). There are three main types of connections we make while reading text. We connect the text to our own experiences, we connect text from one book to another book, and we connect text from a book to the world.
We will continue to study CONNECTIONS this week.
