I have BA in history from Elmhurst College. I have also earned BA degrees in
sociology and political science from the University of Illinois. I am
certified by the state of Illinois to teach American History, World History,
Western Civilization, Far Eastern Studies, Near Eastern Studies, Geography,
Sociology and Political Science and have endorsement to teach language arts. .
In our classroom we will treat each other with respect, as we are all children
of God. Academically we will use our gifts to build upon the foundation that
has been laid before and add to our skills for the coming years.
My mission as a teacher is to make sure that I always create a challenging
and nurturing classroom environment where kids have fun while they learn! I
strive to create a classroom community where kids feel safe and take risks
while learning! I hold high expectations for all of my students and I
encourage and expect them to do their best EVERYDAY! It is my goal to instill
a love of "continual learning" in every one of my students.
Our classroom mission is to grow into enthusiastic, active learners! In 6th-8th
grades, my students learn about things such as Ancient Civilizations, the foundations of our
American government system, and current events. They also develop their writing and logic skills,
through social studies, reading, and language arts. Best of all, I hope
for my students to learn that they can achieve everything they put their
minds to, and exceed even their own expectations!
I believe:
* all children can and want to learn if they are provided with the necessary
support and guidance from home
* students learn best by being actively engaged
* students have their own unique learning styles and it is my responsibility
as their teacher to discover their styles and teach according to them as much
as is realistically possible
* students learn from cooperative activities and therefore in my classroom
they are constantly paired with partners for many classroom experiences
* instruction needs to be differentiated in order to meet the diverse needs
of my classroom
* "PRACTICE MAKES PERMANENT," not perfect, so students will need to have
daily practice of what has been learned. This practice needs to be done in a
variety of ways!
