The story begins when a beautiful baby girl was born on November 19, 1976 in
Decatur, Illinois. ME - Martha Wayne. I am the oldest of 3 kids and the
only girl. Looking back, I had a pretty good childhood. I roller skated,
hula hooped, and
played ghost in the graveyard. I
went to a private school and wore a uniform for 12 years. The brown and
yellow plaid skirt went really
well with my extra thick glasses and freakishly permed 80s hair. Man, I
miss those days.
After my exceptionally long awkward stage, I came into my own in college and
graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelors degree in
Physical Education. I loved college so much I decided to stay and get a
Masters degree in Exercise Physiology. Ask me how a muscle contracts - I'll
talk to you for hours! It was at Eastern where I first heard about Lincoln-
Way. Many of my classmates graduated from Lincoln-Way and they were very
proud of their school and education. They said it was the "best school in
the state!" That's when I decided I wanted to work here.
I started teaching at Lincoln-Way in 1999 (we were one school back then). I
have taught: Freshman Health, Collaborative Health, Freshman Physical
Education, Dance Basics and Dance 2. I really do love it here. I love the
kids, my co-workers, and the community. You will often find me here after
hours supporting extra-curriculars. I coached
Rhythm Knights for 9 years and now I work at the Aquatic Center. I also
help with Link Crew.
I love to be active - whether it's swimming, running, and dancing. The one
thing I am not good at is sitting still and being quiet. :)
