Grades
for each quarter include:
Homework,
quizzes, tests, papers and projects, class participation, and academic planner.
Absences/Make
Up Work
If
a student is absent from school the day of a test or quiz, that student must
be prepared to take the assigned exam upon returning to school.
Also,
if a student misses school the review day before a test, that student is also
expected to take the test on the day that he or she returns to class. Students
need to see the instructor BEFORE or AFTER school/class (NOT DURING CLASS
TIME) to obtain assignments or make arrangements to make up their work.
Students
should refer to the weekly class calendar for missing assignments/grade
opportunities. It
is ultimately the responsibility of each individual to obtain, keep track of,
and make-up assignments/tests/quizzes within the timeframe established by the
Attendance Office.
Late
Work/Missing Assignments:
I
do not accept late work for long range assignments. It is
the student’s responsibility to keep track of assignments and turn them in on
time. Homework for the week is displayed on the board and
maintained on my webpage. Make sure you check the list
daily and write it in your planner.

Grading
Procedures
Grades
are maintained using the online grade book. However, some assignments take
longer to grade than others. Therefore,
the grade posted online may not reflect your current average.
If
you have a question about your current grade, please see me before or after
class or before or after school. Your
assignments are kept in file folders at the front of the class for both of us
to review if there are questions/concerns.
English
2 Honors will be a challenging course meant to prepare students for AP
Language (Junior year) and AP Literature (Senior year).
I
am here to help you. If
students have a question about class or feel overwhelmed by the intensity of
the course, they are encouraged to talk with me.
Students
should never hesitate to discuss their progress in class.
Academic
Dishonesty:
Plagiarism
is cheating that consists of using the works of others without adequate
acknowledgment. Any
idea, fact, or language borrowed from a source must be documented formally or
informally.
Plagiarism
takes a number of forms including, but not limited to the following:
1.
copying any assignment, quiz, test (or part thereof) from another student or
enabling someone to do so from you;
2.
copying or paraphrasing passages, sentences, phrases, words, data, statistics,
and visual aids without proper acknowledgment;
3.
using someone else’s ideas without giving credit to that person;
4.
obtaining and submitting an assignment or paper prepared by someone other than
you;
5.
submitting assignments which are the products of collaboration done without
authorization.
Each
student must be prepared to prove that his/her paper is properly documented by
providing notes, note cards, books, articles, other materials or by submitting
papers to turn-it-in.com to verify the authenticity of documentation.
Please
remember that cheating on any assignment, quiz, test, or paper will result in
a zero for a first offense, failure for the quarter on the second offense, and
failure of the course for the semester on the third offense.
Classroom
Rules:
All
school rules as listed in the 2009-2010 LWN High School Parent/Student
Handbook will be enforced.
…with
that said, here are a few things I feel should be mentioned:
-
NO
GUM CHEWING WILL BE TOLERATED!!!! (Seriously, these desks are brand new and no
one wants to put their hands in gum!)
-
Cell
phone use/texting is not allowed in the classroom – AT ALL.
Ladies
will keep their purses on the floor and all hands should be diligently book
noting their books and not typing nonsense like “lol” or “omg” or “cal”….I
made that last one up.
-
Bigotry,
name calling, or swearing will not be tolerated.
-
Respect
yourself, your classmates, your teachers, guests, etc.
-
Be
in your assigned seat when the bell rings and stay seated until the bell rings
at the end of class – do not line up at the door.
-
Bring
all necessary materials to class everyday.
