Dear Parents,
    Assalamu Alaikum,
I am pleased to welcome your child to Pre-School. I hope that all of
you had a very joyful summer break.
My name is Saima Malik and I will be your child’s teacher. I was born
in Pakistan and raised most of my life in Belgium. I have an Early Childhood
Education certificate and currently pursuing my education at Oakton
Community College. This is my fifth year teaching at MCC Full Time School. I
am looking forward to a wonderful year filled with lots of excitement.
It is our aim to provide your child with a fun, loving, educational
environment where they will grow both socially and academically. This year
in the Pre-School class we will be following “The Letter People” curriculum.
Your child will learn how to recognize and print both upper and lower case
letters along with their phonetic sounds, they will learn about various
themes throughout the year. Along with this letter I will be sending you a
more detailed letter with the whole year’s curriculum.
Preschool Curriculum

Philosophy
It is our aim that our Pre-Schoolers will learn in a positive,
Islamic environment and that they will continue to develop a love of
learning.

General Goal
We will be working on listening skills, following directions,
striving towards independence, and encourage higher-level thinking skills.

Themes
The Pre-School year is organized on weekly themes. All content
areas are centered on each theme.

Math Curriculum
This year our math curriculum will be based heavily on the use of
math manipulative. Such as one-to-one correspondence, shapes, writing
numbers, and patterning.

Literacy
This year we will be following “The Letter People” curriculum. Our
program is the creation of a print-rich environment and student/teacher
interaction. The children will be exposed to pre-reading skills, writing
skills, and speaking/listening skills. Predictable charts, big books, the
reading of lots of books (fiction and non-fiction), singing songs, reading
poems, watching the teacher write to see how one writes, etc. are all part
of the curriculum. We emphasize the sound of the alphabet letters and the
recognition and writing of the upper and lower case letters.

Science
Our program is centered on explorations and observations. In Pre-
School, as you can see in the themes list, the children learn about many
things the animal and plant groups.

Assessment
The assessment in Pre-School is ongoing throughout the year.
Observations are often made and noted. We will observe their daily work,
their participation at large group time and their classroom behavior. Also
there will be individual assessments at the end of each quarter.

Communication
Communication is usually handled through twice a week newsletter and
notes going home in the folder of the backpack. So it is a very good idea to
check this folder daily. I want very much to have open communications with
you. It is my hope that you contact me first if there are any
miscommunications or concerns.

Homework
I expect the children will be family tired when they come home, so
we would rather have then relax and enjoy their families. But, we do have
little homework assignments occasionally.

What Can You Do at Home to Help Your Child?
1. Read! Read! Read!
2. Talk to your child about any page that comes home
3. Keep lots of paper, pencils, and crayons handy
4. During everyday routines around the routine around the house, ask your
children to count, give letter sounds, etc.
