What do I need to know to pass this class?

Language Arts News!

Hello! Welcome to Mrs. Iversons language arts class. This letter is
intended
for you to keep and refer back to as often as necessary and to provide you
with key information about assignments, grading procedures, classroom
expectations, and contact information. I would like to make this year your
best ever in language arts, but to do that I need your help. You must
participate in class, ask questions when you do not know or understand
material, and be willing to meet with me outside of class if necessary in
order to help you. Please take responsibility for your own learning.

Homework:
Basic requirement in life, get use to it, you will have some. Now, having
said that, I do want you to realize that there is a reason for homework, and
not just to keep you off the streets at night. Most scheduled homework will
be a review, a concept not yet mastered by a large portion of the class, or
it will further extend your knowledge of covered material. I will not assign
busywork. If you fail to turn in homework assignments you will not be
eligible for extra credit assignments. Do not ask me at the end of a quarter
for extra credit when you have not completed the basic assignments for the
class.

Classroom Organization and Procedures:
Best advice; be in the room, in your seat, when the bell rings. There will
always be board work for you to do on a daily basis. This board work is
worth
5 points a day, or 25 points a week, which adds up to quite a few points,
especially if you choose not to complete the board work. Most board work
assignments will be review or thought provoking assignments. They will not
be
over material not yet covered, but could be assignments that ask you to
think. Basically, as long as you complete the work, you get credit. Just try
and exercise the brain in your head and you will receive your points.
This class is designed to cover both writing and reading. Please come
prepared to class everyday with something to write on, something to write
with, and reading material. We will have a scheduled time for us to utilize
the library every other week, and Mahomet has its own village library that
you may want to visit for reading materials as well. Once a week we will
have
whole class reading time in one of our blocks so it is essential that you
bring something to read with you on these days.
Procedural Expectations:
Be in seat when bell rings, with materials ready.
You must raise your hand if you want to be heard by the whole
classroom. I will call only on students who raise their hands, and will
ignore students comments when said without thought and without being
recognized.
Bring necessary supplies to class every day. I will not supply you
with paper or a writing instrument.
Turn homework, assignments, or projects in on time.

Grades:
One important fact about grades is that you earn them. In order to earn them
you must complete work that I can assess. Your final grade in this class
will
be a combination of scores from daily board work, papers, projects,
homework,
quizzes and exams.
