Dear Parents of a Bass Fishing Competitor,

The official IHSA Bass Fishing Season is in the spring; however there are many opportunities to fish in the fall as well.  If your son/daughter is interested in fishing and is not on a fall sport they are welcome to join us at any of our practice days or competitions.  At this point we have had two competitions and two practice days.  The practice days are not mandatory so I will only take kids if I have at least two to fish with, and teach.  We use artificial lures; live bait is against IHSA rules.  Extra rods and lures are provided in case students do not have all the bass fishing gear needed.

In the spring I will give the students a regular practice schedule and will post it on my website.  They will be expected to attend all practices to be eligible for competition. 

This year we will have a fishing shirt embroidered with the Marian Logo and your child/s name.  The cost of the shirt is $25 and I would ask that the money be turned in as soon as possible so shirts can be ordered.  The shirt will be our uniform shirt and we will stick with this color for the continuing years.  We will wear these shirts for team photos and competitions. 

In the spring only six of the students will be able to compete for the school and the six individuals chosen will be asked by the school to pay a sports fee of $95.  The remainder of the students will be able to practice with us in order to earn a spot the following year.  Consideration for the six spots will be based on the following criteria;  1) ability to catch bass at team practices or fall competitions, 2)  made the team the year before, 3) senior status, and 4) ability to get along with others.  We currently have 12 individuals interested in the six spots, therefore six will be disappointed but will get an opportunity the following year. 

Students are asked to pay attention to announcements, the website or stop in and see me to keep up with what is happening.  We may try to do some ice fishing this winter if there is enough interest.
