We have just finished up our final test on
The Crucible and our attentions have immediately turned to launching our research paper project. Currently, all students are selecting topics and turning their opinions into a strong thesis statement. With every step of the writing process, I try to create a guided worksheet that will help focus thoughts. This, I believe, is the most difficult skill: taking random thoughts, opinions and knowledge and writing them out in a cohesive manner. The steps we teach with this paper will be applied with every academic writing your student will complete throughout college. Many of my former students have told me that they use these skills with every paper now in college.
If you have not created a
www.turnitin.com account, you MUST for this project, as we are using it for every step in the writing process. To create an account, you must have an email address of your own (especially important for students who have had older siblings here at Marian.) I strongly urge my students to set their passwords as their last names and their birthday (for example: smith110292 ) You will most likely be using turnitin during your senior year, and in college - as most universities are taking advantage of this system - so make the password something you'll remember.
