Final Newsletter
Mrs. Young 2011-2012
I can’t believe it is here already; the end of the kindergarten year is just a few school days away. From my view it has been a successful year; lots of learning, lots of friends, and lots of smiles. Thank you for your children and your support.
All students are bringing home an ‘end-of-the-year’ packet on Tuesday, May 22. The contents of the packet include some of their writing work in their writing folder, a couple of blank books for writing, letter card, first and last self portraits, and summer fun ideas. Also included is each student’s handwriting book. We did all of the uppercase letters on our chalkboards so there are blank pages for the uppercase letters. These books can be used for summer practice or playing school. Also included is information about summer reading programs for the Mahomet Public Library and the Sangamon summer reading program. Students that stay connected to a reading program throughout the summer will most assuredly not lose any ground with reading and, more likely will advance their reading skill over the summer.
The report card will come home Tuesday in your child’s back pack. If your child is unable to attend on the last day of school the report card will be mailed.
We have enjoyed talking about our kindergarten year over the past couple of weeks, in between our many extra activities. It seems as though we came upon the end sooner than anticipated and I have felt crunched for time with these children. This is, in fact, the earliest date for the end of school in all of my 19 years at Mahomet-Seymour.
Friday, May 18is our walk to visit Sangamon. Remember that your child will need a small lunch or snack for our time in the Sangamon lunch room. If you would like your child to wear sunscreen, please apply it before he/she comes to school. We will be walking so comfortable play shoes are needed.
Monday, May 21is ‘Fun Day’ at Middletown for kindergarten. We will be outside almost all day. Children should come to school dressed for outdoors play (chalk, water, bubbles, running, etc.) Again, if you want your child to wear sunscreen please apply it before sending them to school on. Monday
Tuesday, May 22is the last day of kindergarten and the party day. If the weather permits, the party will be outdoors. Parties will begin after recess at 10:00 and 2:00.
I have very much enjoyed both groups of children and I am extremely pleased with the progress they have made. They have become terrific ‘emergent and beyond’ readers, writers, and friends. They have learned about working together, helping each other, and seeing that each one of us has something to offer and celebrate.
In each student’s report card there will be a letter for them from me with my address on the back. I give them my address to encourage writing over the summer. If they use their kindergarten writing to write me a letter I promise to write them back. This is a real life use of their writing and a fun way to use this skill. So please know that it is okay if they want to write a letter or two. I expect to get letters over the summer and am happy to reply.
Thank you for a great year. Your help and interest with school is an important ingredient in a strong educational start.
Have a wonderful summer.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Debbie Young
