Research Report and Speech

This is an at home project!  We will not be working on this in the classroom.  You have picked a person in class that has influenced the United States in some way.  Your job is to research this person, write a report, dress-up as this person, and present a 30 second speech on this person.  The report will be due and wax museum will be held on Friday, February 6, 2009 in Casey Hall at 1:45 PM.  You need to return this entire packet the day of the speeches on Friday, February 6, 2009!!!!

         Report must:

·    Be typewritten in third person point of view (he, she, Bob, Joe, Mary, etc.)

·    Have 5 paragraphs with topic sentences for each paragraph.

·    Have a good introduction and good conclusion.

·    Be written in complete sentences.

·    Use 2 or more sources for information, including 1 book.

·    Have a cover page.

·    Have a timeline.

·    Have a bibliography.

·    Have at least one picture of the person.

         Speech:

·    Have a 30 second speech prepared about this person.  It should include: their life, why they are famous, and what they have contributed to the United States.

·    Speech should be written as if you have become this person. (Use I, me, my)

·    Write speech notes on an index card with simple notes written on them.  Entire speech should not be written on the index cards.

·    Memorize your speech.

·    Dress up as the person you have researched.  Your costume does not need to be expensive or extravagant.  Be creative and use materials that you find around your house.

·    You need to bring in a stepstool by Monday, February 2, 2009.  You will stand on them the day you give your speech.   This way people do not have to bend down to hear you give your speech.

·    You need to practice at least 8 times.  Your parents must initial this sheet every time you practice your speech.
