Greetings!
Wow--we really had a gift of beautiful weather this week-end! My kids are
coming out today to help rake leaves. I think little Eamon will have a blast
playing in the leaves. I made a big pot of beef stew and apple pie so I think
everyone will be happy! Thank you to everyone for coming in for conferences.
It is always good to touch base and spend a few minutes together.
This week in Math we will finish up the unit on Measurement. The "Checking
Progress and Open Response" will be on Thursday and Friday. To finish up the
unit we will learn about area, diameter, and circumference.
The spelling words for this week are beautiful, enough, recycle, first, and Thursday.
In guided reading we will reading about pilgrim children. We will learn about
their daily lives. We also will be reading "Time for Kids". The
comprehension strategies we will be working on is main idea and detail as we
read each article.
This week in writing we will be returning to our writing journals. We will
begin preparing for a new writing assignment. Starting next week we will
begin writing a trade book. The students will pick an animal and create an
8-10 page book with informational text and pictures. The final product will
contain a Table of Contents, Introduction, habitat, predators, life cycle,
and, finally, interesting details about their specific animal. This project
will take the next few weeks and will be done in school.
For the "read aloud" time we will continue reading "Pilgrim Stories." We also
will read several math books about circumference and diameter.
In Social Studies we will finish the first chapter. The test will on be
Thursday. We also will be doing some work on map scales in geography.
As you know by now, each class will be attending Mass once a week. Our
scheduled day is Wednesday. This is a gym day for us and you do not need to
worry about wearing the formal uniform. Sweats are ok. This week in Religion
we continue to learn about the importance of trusting in God. We will learn
about Saint Joseph. Last week the students drew pictures of when the angel of
God came to him and told about the birth of Jesus.
That about covers the news. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have
any questions or concerns.
Cheers!
