What will my child miss in the regular classroom when at Title I?

Your child will not miss any formal instruction when they attend
Title I class. Many teachers will use this time as a study hall or silent
reading time for the students remaining in class.

Do students receive "grades" in Title I?

No. Parents will be given a quarterly update on progress in Title I. Title I
is not a graded subject and is not part of their regular classroom reading
grade.

Why is my child in Title I?

Your child is in Title I to give him/her additional help in the area of
reading. Students are recommended for Title I services based on classroom
teacher recommendation and/or performance on standardized tests. Many
students are recommended for services by the previous year's teacher for the
current year. This year's teacher may also recommend students. Students are
also candidates if they received lower than 40% on the standardized reading
test administered by the school.

Will my child always be in Title I?

Each year students are re-evaluated for Title I services. If a student does
not qualify he/she will no longer be eligible for services. At any time
during the school year it may be felt by the parent, Title I teacher, or
classroom teacher that services are no longer needed. At that time a student
will be dismissed from Title I. The majority of the students remain in the
class throughout the school year.

Does my child have to go to Title I?

Title I is an additional opportunity to improve reading skills. Students read
every day and many reading skills are reinforced during Title I time. If a
parent does not want the services he/she may send a signed letter stating
they do not want their child to receive the services.
