SAT PREP Class:  GCMS is offering an SAT Prep Course this spring through the Illini Tutoring company out of Champaign.  This is the same company that does test prep at Parkland and Centennial.  Classes are on Sunday's beginning February 5 through March 26 (with no class on March 19th).  Cost is $325.  Registration Forms are located in the guidance office.  If questions, please call GCMS High School.

Summer Construction Program:  Through the Education for Employment System #330 at Champaign Central High School starting June 5 - June 30 / 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM Monday - Friday.  Learn construction-related skills through classroom presentations and structured lab time.  Students will be a Habitat for Humanity home, visit trade union halls, and learn to apply for a Union Apprenticeship.  Upon completion, students will earn:  OHSA Certificate, $500 stipend and '1' High School Credit.  Applications are available in the guidance office - Application Deadline:  April 10, 2017.

University of Illinois Extension:  They are offering a youth leadership development training for Ford County youth in seventh through twelfth grades.  This is 4-H curriculum based, but youth need not be members of 4-H to participate in the group.  We will meet one Sunday afternoon a month for the next 5 months and cover topics that will help youth become better leaders in their schools and communities.  Some of the topics include communication, working in groups, making decisions, and getting along with others.  Please visit the following website for more information:   https://web.extension.illinois.edu/registration/?RegistrationID=15694.

Summer Technology Camps at Parkland:

  • Machining & Welding:  Industrial Technology Camp.  This camp features hands-on, high-tech lab work using the latest industry technology.  Lunch & T-Shirt Provided.  Dates:  June 19 – 29, times 9 AM – 3 PM for ages 13 – 18.  Cost:  $159.

  • Mapping with Technology:  Learn how professional surveyors use high-tech tools to create maps and use the maps when making decisions to build structures and develop land.  Lunch & T-Shirt Provided.  Dates:  June 5 – 8, times:  9 AM – 3 PM for ages 13 – 18.  Cost:  $129.

  • Automotive Camps:  Covering the basics of automotive technology, maintenance, and repair.  Learn the proper way to change oil, diagnose common engine malfunctions, and keep a vehicle running in top condition.  Lunch & T-Shirt Provided: 

    Camp 1:  June 12 – 15, times:  9 AM – 3 PM, for ages 16 – 18.  Cost:  $129

    Camp 2:  June 19 – 22, times:  9 AM – 3 PM, for ages 14 – 16.  Cost:  $129
