Can I turn in late work?
You may turn in up to 2 late assignments per quarter for full credit. No
more assignments will be accepted after that. Turn in work for the current
chapter only. Assignments turned in after the chapter is over will not be accepted.
Can I retake a test?
Yes. Tests receiving scores below 70% can be retaken if you have done at least 75% of the
homework for that chapter. You must get the test signed by your parents, come in for a short
tutoring session, then come in to retake the test. Do all of this within 1 weeks of the test. You will
receive the higher of the 2 scores. Take advantage of this. There aren't many classes where this
opportunity is given.
Can I redo an assignment for more points?
You may make corrections on homework receiving 70% or below. You will
receive up to 1/2 the missed points back. Everyone is encouraged to do
this. There is no reason to keep a low score on homework. I also suggest
that you check over your work carefully prior to turning it in. Use a calculator or have
a parent check it for you. This will save time later. When making
corrections, be sure to redo the entire problem showing all the work. Do
this in ink on the same paper or on a new sheet. Be sure to turn in both
the corrections and the original assignment. Corrections can not be made
for a higher score on incomplete papers. Rather it is suggested that you
take advantage of your 2 free late assignments.
How many checks can I receive before receiving a detention?
Five. Checks are given for not having materials, gum, and other minor
infractions. Most of you won't even realize these are being given if you
are doing what is expected. Detentions are given directly for more serious issues.
Poor behavior is never accepted in this classroom.
Can I come in for extra help?
Absolutly. You may come in before school at 7:45 or right after school.
You may also come in 9th hr if you get a pass from me ahead of time.
Can I leave the room if I need to?
Only in an emergency.
What if I don't "get it"?
Be sure to copy down the problem and show the attempts you have made. Look
over your notes, handouts, and/or textbook for additional instructions. See
me before/after school. Be specific in telling me exactly what you don't
get. Just saying "I don't understand" is vague and doesn't help me to help
you.
Do we have a class routine?
Pretty much so. Math just works this way. Upon entering the room, be sure
you have all necessary materials. Place your homework on your desk so I can
see it while you work on the daily warm up. Next begin working on the
daily warm up problem. This is usually a review of previous material. It
is important that you write it down in the warm up section of your notebook
and begin working on it. Next we will spend a few minutes going over the
homework. Be sure to trade papers with someone. Please write your name on
the paper you are checking. The answers may be on the overhead or they may
be read aloud. Please mark the number incorrect at the top and then return
the paper to its owner. Quickly look over your checked paper for errors and
to find out which items were missed. If time, begin making corrections in
pen. Next the new material will be presented. Be sure to take adequate
notes including all definitions and sample problems I give to you. I will
also give you some problems to work on your own. Do these in the notebook
and show all of your work. With some time left at the end of class, you
will be given an assignment. Some will get it done in class, some will have
to take it home or do it in study hall if you have one.
How should I head my homework paper?
Class number goes in upper right corner. First and last name goes on first
line below the class number. Section number or page number with question
numbers goes below your name or somewhere at the top of the page. Please
label all assignments properly. Math papers all look alike and I can't tell
what's what unless it is labelled.
