Creative Writing

Fall, 2007-2008

This one-semester course is available to students in grades 11 and 12.  Students are led through a series of exercises designed to generate autobiography and  memoir writing.  These writings are revised and refined into poetry, fiction, drama, or non-fiction essays. 

Workshop sessions provide ample peer evaluation and support throughout the revision process.

 

OBJECTIVES
Students will

·        compose in a variety of modes for different purposes and audiences

·        improve writing through journal exercises, self-editing and peer-editing

·        critically read a variety of classical and contemporary models

 

 

MATERIALS

Journal

Notebook for in-class exercises

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

1. Portfolios are assessed by the teacher, as well as by the student and her parents.

2. All papers and assignments must be on time, on the date due at the beginning of the class workshop sessions. 

3. Students will be given the opportunity to revise after each workshop session. 

4. The English department make-up policy is as follows:

The student must make arrangement in writing for all make-up work and tests with the teacher within two days of her return or no credit will be given.  Work received after the agreed deadline will receive no higher than 69%.
