BECOMING A MORAL PERSON

PAGE. IT IS THREE PAGES IN LENGTH. IT WAS UPLOADED TO THIS SITE ON MAY 22.

Beginning May 20: Viewing of the film "School Ties."

DUE TUESDAY, May 19: Actively READ pp. 191-195. What are the differences 
among "white lies," "telling the truth with kindness," "necessarily 
withholding the truth," and just plain lying?

DUE MONDAY, May 18: Complete the Honesty Case Study by writing answers on the 
page itself, not to hand in. Be sure to ask parents about #2 in "Imagine 
Possibilities."

DUE FRIDAY, May 15:READ pp. 188-190 and KNOW EVERYTHING!


Students who were absent for the May 8 Hotel Rwanda assessment need to meet
with me during class on Monday to set up a time for make-up. You may work with
a partner, and the partner does not have to be from the same class period as
your own.

Periods F and G will have a Guest Speaker on Tuesday, May. 12.

FOR MONDAY, MAY 11: OBJECTIVE ASSESSMENT ON THE SAME MATERIAL AS MAY 8
FOR FRIDAY, MAY 8: IN CLASS ASSESSMENT ON CHAPTERS 7, 10 AND "HOTEL RWANDA"
This will be a team effort, open book + open notes.


BEGINNING MONDAY, APRIL 27: Viewing of "Hotel Rwanda" in class. Viewing 
guides were passed in class this day.
We will use this video for an assessment on Courage, and also tie it into the 
virtue of Respect for Persons, found in Chapter 10.

DUE MONDAY, April 27: Periods F and G only: Complete the chapter Review 
Questions (all of them) using complete sentences. Do these in the class 
notebook, NOT to hand in.

VIEWED in class, April 23: "Our Heroes, Ourselves" This video and its 
worksheet needs to be viewed by everyone before the chapter test.

DUE APRIL 21: Activity #1, p. 137.

ALSO DUE APRIL 20: READ CHAPTER 7, "COURAGE"

QUESTIONS FOR "THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA"--DUE APRIL 20 (by e-mail to 
mdougherty@rdhs.org if you are absent. Send in Word format.)
Period C: If Andy had "imagined all possibilities" and "turned inward," how 
might her relationship with Christian have been different? Was it 
a 'growthful' relationship for her? Explain.
Period F and G: If Andy had imagined all the possibilities and truly turned 
inward, 
would she have gone to Paris in Emily's place? Explain. If Nigel had seen 
reality clearly and imagined all possibilities, would his "fate" have been 
such a surprise? Explain.

As noted, Chapter 5 TEST is Thursday, April 2. This test will be objective.

DUE TUESDAY, March 31: Review all of Chapter 5 "Wise Judgment." 

Chapter 5 test: tentative date is Thursday, April 2. Students on the Spanish 
Field Trip may take the test after school on this day.

DUE THURSDAY,March 26: Write, to hand in, your responses to "Final 
Questions..." from the "Stop-Sign Prank" handout, given in class this day. 
Also, Write to hand in Activity 11, p. 107. These writings may be on the same 
page: ink, no crossing out, accurate spelling, as always.

DUE WEDNESDAY, March 25: READ pp. 104--107. Be able to 
explain "rationalization."
All six bullet points associated with the "Crisis on the River" story are to 
be completed in the student notebook by Wednesday, March 25.

DUE MONDAY, March 23: READ pp 101-104.

DUE THURSDAY, March 19: READ pp. 93-100, in Chapter Six. Be able to answer 
the RQ, p. 98!
ON WEDNESDAY, March 18: Brief Quiz on Conscience types.

DUE FRIDAY, March 13: READ pp. 85-91. RQ p 89, 90 strongly suggested.
DUE WEDNESDAY, March 11: READ pp 75-84. RQ p 84 strongly suggested.
DUE TUESDAY, March 10: Final Ch. 3 assessment.

DUE WEDNESDAY, Feb. 25: READ handout: "READING 5: Us and Them"
Periods F and G: Answer the questions (A, B, C and D) given on the final page 
of this handout. Answer in notebooks, using sentences. This will be checked 
but not handed in.

In class TUESDAY, Feb. 24: Group work with "Timeline of the Holocaust." 
+ "Social Sin" handouts. Goal is to connect specific behaviors with "sin" and 
other concepts from the text.

DUE MONDAY, Feb. 23: Complete #3, third bullet,under "works of mercy" on 
handout.
READ pp. 66-73. What are the "kinds of sin?" What is sin?

IN CLASS WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY: Complete handout on Beatitudes and Works of 
Mercy in small groups.

DUE WEDNESDAY, Feb. 18: READ pp. 59--65. Review the Four Basic Moral 
Principles, pp 58 and 59.
Be able to define "magisterium". 

DUE FRIDAY, Feb. 13: READ pp. 47-47. Be able to answer (a) What is rugged 
individualism? (b)Why is it called MYTH?

***CHAPTER TWO TEST WILL BE ON THURSDAY, FEB. 12************
Format for the chapter two test will include matching, multiple choice, brief 
answer and one longer essay.

DUE MONDAY, Feb. 9: QUIZ on the 10 Commandments. Be able to write them in 
order. You need not quote exact Biblical language.

DUE FRIDAY, Feb. 6: Activity #11, p. 38--do this in the notebook. READ pp. 40-
44, about virtues.

DUE THURSDAY, Feb.5: Review pages 38 and 39, regarding Jesus’ “great 
commandment of love.”

In class WEDNESDAY, Feb. 4: I asked everyone to be aware of three 
characteristics of humans (freedom to choose, power to act on choices, 
responsibility for what is chosen) that flow from the belief that humans are 
created in the image of God. This is found on p. 31. The final paragraph on 
page 31 details three concepts related to what is termed humankind’s original 
sin: rejection of one’s inherent goodness; denial (of one’s inherent value) 
that cuts one off from God, others, and all of creation; and refusal to treat 
oneself and others as “likenesses of God.” Both lists-of-three will probably 
show up on an assessment.

DUE WEDNESDAY, Feb. 4: READ pp. 33-39.
WRITE,to hand in, a letter to your cousin about Simon's dinner. Choose ONE 
point of view for this letter: (a) Simon; (b) a male guest--not Jesus; (c) 
the woman.

DUE MONDAY, Feb. 2: READ pp. 27--32 in Chapter Two. Recall the definition 
of "love" from Catholic Social Teaching! Be able to answer the second RQ, p. 
29, in your own words with an original example.

**DUE FRIDAY, Jan. 30: Activity #6, p. 16. Instructions and rubric 
distributed in class on Monday, Jan. 26.
In class WEDNESDAY, Jan. 28: work on Activity 6, p. 16, in the classroom.
Period C will use the library on Thursday, Jan. 29. PERIOD C ONLY REPORT 
DIRECTLY TO THE LIBRARY ON THURSDAY, Jan. 29.

DUE TUESDAY, Jan. 27: Three-question quiz on pp. 7-16.

DUE MONDAY, Jan. 26: READ pp. 17--25 (finish the chapter) and summarize this 
reading, to hand in: ink, final draft.
DUE FRIDAY, Jan. 23: REVIEW pp. 14, 16.
DUE THURSDAY, Jan. 22: READ pp. 10--16. Be able to identify the different 
approaches to decision-making among Derek, Frank, and Christine, as explained 
in the reading.
