As an educator, I am generally happy to write recommendations for my
students. I feel very strongly that it is important for students to have
access to a college education.
I spend a LOT of my own time crafting each recommendation so that it is
individualized for the student in question. Because of this, I feel it is
reasonable to expect to be asked personally for a student recommendation.
This policy is not intended to intimidate or to discourage any students. It
is intended to show me that the student ackowledges the amount of effort a
teacher must go through in order to write a recommendation.
So if you would like me to write you a recommendation, take the following
steps:
1) Sign the cover sheet from the counseling office waiving your right to
view the completed recommendation
2) Attach a copy of your autobiography
3) Ask me in person to write your recommendation. If I have any
reservations about writing a recommendation for you, I will let you know at
that time.
For best results, provide me with these materials BEFORE you leave for
summer break. Recommendations written hurriedly in the fall are less
effective. And I will be less likely to accept requests for them.
Please see me if you have any questions.
