Due 9/3: Measure the dimensions (length, width, and height) of your room at home. If your room has an irregular shape, approximate it as rectangular. Express each of the dimensions in meters. (First, write each dimension in decimal feet: for example, 12 feet 3 inches would be twelve and a quarter feet or 12.25 feet. Then, multiply feet by 0.3 feet per meter to get meters.) Now, calculate the area of your floor in square meters, and the volume of your room in cubic meters. (What is the formula for the area of a rectangle? What is the formula for the volume of a rectangular prism?)
Due 9/2: Complete the Graphing Worksheet.
Due 8/29: Measure the thickness, in millimeters, of 50 double-sided pages of your textbook. (That would be 100 pages, as the pages are numbered, because there is one page on each side.) Repeat for 75, 125, and 300 double-sided pages. Graph the relationship between total thickness and the number of double-sided pages, with thickness on the vertical axis and pages on the horizontal. Describe your graph. Is it approximately a straight line? Use your graph to predict the thickness of 200 double-sided pages. Check your prediction. Calculate the average thickness of each individual double-sided page.
Due 8/28: Review Questions 11, 12, 13, 14. Exercise 7.
Due 8/27: Finish Reading Chapter 1.
