Big Ideas-

1. Recognize and apply the fact that "mole" describes a number ( similar to

dozen -12 items), called Avagadro's Number, and that is the number of carbon- 12 atoms needed to have a mass of 12.00 grams.(and also represents the number of hydrogen atoms needed to have a mass = 1.00g

2. Recognize that the number of molecules or monatomic atoms contained in one mole of an element is 6.02 x 10 23.

3. Given the formula or name of a compound or an element, be able to determine its molar mass.

4. Given any one of the following values for an element or a compound, be able to determine the other two.

a. mass b. number of moles c. number of molecules present

(e.g. - Given 7.10 g of Cl2, determine the number of
