Regina seniors examine legal and domestic issues
Regina Dominican's seniors had a special opportunity to listen to first-hand
accounts of criminal and domestic court cases from professional judges as
they took part in the school's annual Legal Issues Seminar. Sponsored by the
Social Studies Department, the Seminar brings Chicago area judges into the
school's small auditorium for the first period of the day to discuss with
students the issues that they face in their courtrooms. This year's Seminar
will be held on November 12th and 13th. Leading off the program on November
12th will be the Honorable Dorothy Kirie Kinnaird. She has been the head of
the Chancery Division since 2002. Her topic is entitled "Constitutional
Issue in Chancery.
The presenter on the 13th will be announced later.
The Legal Issues Seminar was begun 40 years ago by the Honorable Robert J.
Downing to give Regina Dominican seniors the opportunity to explore complex
legal matters. Seniors deepen this experience by witnessing first-hand how
these matters are resolved during the annual Criminal Court Field Trip. The
Social Studies Department offers students various other ways to become more
informed about and involved in the U.S. political system. During election
years, students participate in mock elections, and seniors are eligible to
serve as election judges. Students can also become involved in the Young
Democrats Club and the Young Republicans Club.
