Course Description/Objectives:
Design and Materials I is a survey of the art experience designed for
beginning students. This yearlong class helps students to gain proficiency
in the basics of art while introducing them to various media. We will
explore the fundamentals of art as based on the elements and principles of
art/design. Design & Materials I will also help students gain an
appreciation for and understanding of various forms of art present in their
lives. Students will also gain experience in the critiquing process – by
assessing and articulating thoughts about their own work as well as others
in a thoughtful and constructive manner.
