I have been a teacher with Regina's science department since August, 2001.
I have enjoyed teaching Anatomy and Physiology, Biology- levels I, II, and
III, Chemistry- levels I and II, Environmental Science, and Health.
In addition to teaching experience, I bring with me over 32 years of
experience as a registered professional nurse, with several years of
experience in Community Health Nursing, followed with extensive experience
in maternal-child health / high risk labor and delivery.
My professional experiences with children and young adults has been
greatly enriched by the joys and challenges of raising six children. As the
youngest finishes high school, we are now enjoying the blessing of
grandchildren. To see the world through the eyes of a toddler is a gift that
never stops giving.
ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY: Level 3. This is a comprehensive study of all the
human organ systems, using a college level textbook. It is ideal
preparation for anyone interested in pursuing a career in the health
sciences. Laboratory requirements consist of physiological and anatomical
investigations, including a feline dissection. Special attention is given to
the application of knowledge for diagnosis and treatment of disease
processes. Lecture, research projects, case presentations and a field trip
are part of the course. A basic understanding of Latin(1-2 years) is
recommended but not required.
BIOLOGY 712, Level 2: This is an introductory lab course designed to
familiarize students with the main topics in Biology: cellular
biology, genetics, evolution and the six kingdoms of life, comparative
anatomy. Most topics are integrated with human anatomy and physiology. The
interrelatedness of Science-Technology-Society is an underlying
theme in all topics.
BIOLOGY 710, Level 1: This course uses the same textbook and curriculum as
level two, covering the same topics. The homework, labs and assessments are
modified for the level one student capabilities.
HEALTH: Level 2. This course is designed to help students examine their
lifestyles, select goals and make plans to achieve and maintain optimum
health. The student will develop an understanding of the lifelong process
of physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development. Human
sexuality, with an emphasis on sexual abstinence until marriage, is
explored, following guidelines for optimal physical, mental, emotional and
social health and wellness, which, of course, are in line with the teachings
of the magisterium of the Catholic Church. This course is a state
requirement for graduation.
