Welcome to Second Grade - Room 103 Seth Whitman Elementary School

Welcome to our website, a place where you can visit all of the important
information about what is going on in our classroom and at school. I hope
you are able to find everything that you need to keep you informed of the
procedures, events, and learning activities for the 2009-2010 school year.

I would like to thank all of the wonderful parents who helped during the
classroom Halloween celebration. The kids had a wonderful time. They were
so excited to parade around the school in their costumes. I posted several
pictures from that day on this website.

The students were very busy with work this past week. They learned about the
genre of folktales. We worked on the plot of a story (the characters,
setting, beginning, middle, and end). Every fiction story has a plot. They
reviewed plot by writing stories with characters, a setting, a beginning, a
middle, and an end.

In grammar we worked on common and proper nouns. They learned how proper
nouns begin with a capital letter.

Our math chapter is still over graphs. We looked at many different types of
graphs.

They did an experiment with different rocks and soil. We also talked about
changes on Earth, such as weathering and erosion.

In social studies, they learned about the state and country governments.
They all made election posters on what state government offical they wanted
to be.

The book fair begins later this week! We will previes all the books on
Friday, November 6th. Each student will have the opportunity to make a wish
list during that time. The book fair will be open during the parent/teacher
conferences next week. The students will also have an opportunity to
purchase books at school during the week on November 9th.

All notes went home for parent/teacher conferences. Please let me know if
you an unsure of your conference time.
