Terry Mezo is a graduate of Nashville High School, Kaskaskia College, and
Brigham Young University (with a 4 year stint in the U.S. Air Force thrown
in for good measure!), earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary
Education. In the summer of 2002, Mrs. Mezo completed her certification for
Secondary Education in Spanish. In 2007, she completed her Master's Degree
in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Southern
Illinois University Carbondale.
An elementary teacher for 12 years, she has taught in Utah, El Salvador,
California, and Illinois. She spent 2 years in El Salvador teaching 4th
grade English Language Arts at La Escuela Americana in the capital city of
San Salvador. Upon her return to the U.S., she then spent 6 years teaching
a bilingual 3rd grade classroom in inner-city Los Angeles. Finally
returning to her native Illinois, she has taught Spanish at Sparta High
School since August 2000.
Mrs. Mezo has many interests, including traveling, working on her family's
history and geneology, gardening, walking, yoga, reading good books,
ballroom dancing with her husband and spoiling her 9 grandchildren.
1. To increase knowledge of the Spanish language and gain an
understanding of how to use it on an everyday basis.
2. To enrich students' lives with an understanding of a culture and people
different from their own.
3. To gain the skills necessary for successful learning of a foreign
language.
4. To help students learn tolerance and respect for people who are
different than themselves.
5. To learn a difficult subject and have fun at the same time!
