                            December News

Stock report research paper for seventh and eighth graders has been extended
until December 15. Sport eligibility will be affected if I do not receive
the paper at that time. Please check on your child’s progress.

Fifth graders 5 will be finishing their statistic chapter. They will learn
how to make a stem and leaf plot and find range, mode and median. They will
take a chapter test before Christmas break.

Sixth graders will be completing Chapter 4. They will be finding the
perimeter and area of figures and using metric units of mass and capacity as
well as changing units within the metric system. They will spend a
considerable amount of time dividing decimals. Lastly, students will learn
to solve problems by first solving a simpler problem. I’d like to finish
this chapter before Christmas.

Seventh graders will explore several aspects of number theory in Chapter 4.
They will study divisibility rules, prime and composite numbers and
factorization. Next, they will explore geometric and arithmetic sequences,
factors and multiples, fractions, percents, decimals, ratios and the
probability of simple events. They will also explore problem solving
techniques by making an organized list and by studying the Fibonacci sequence
of numbers.

Eighth graders will be taking a chapter test. Then they will study some
topics from Chapter 4. They will study monomials and exponents. They will
find the greatest common factor and least common multiple and use these
concepts to compare and simplify fractions. Lastly, they will multiply and
divide monomials and learn how to apply negative exponents in expressions and
equations.

I wish all of you a merry Christmas holiday season.
