Folders
The Take Home Folder will come home every night. Please make sure to empty
the "Keep at Home" side EVERY NIGHT. Any notes or homework papers (including
things needing to go to the office) should be sent back to school on
the "Return to School" side.
--------------------------------------
Lunches
If your child will be bringing their lunch in a brown paper bag or a plastic
grocery bag, please make sure their name is written on it before they come to
school. All the lunches are placed in a basket at the beginning of school.
Please make sure your child's name is also printed on their reusable lunch
boxes.
--------------------------------------
Snacks
Snacks need to be sent to school in a seperate bag from your child's lunch.
Snacks are kept in the lockers while lunches are placed in a basket at the
beginning of the day. Snack should consist of ONE small, healthy item and a
drink (if you child would like a beverage). Snack is only 5 minutes long
and lunch is not to far away.
--------------------------------------
Dismissal
As a safety precaution, your child needs to know who is picking them up at
the end of the school day BEFORE THEY LEAVE IN THE MORNING. Another reminder
about pick-up, YOU MUST GET OUT OF YOUR VEHICLE AND COME PICK YOUR CHILD UP
FROM BEHIND THE YELLOW CHAIN. I cannot allow them to walk outside of that
safe area with any sibling until I see a parent within a safe distance. This
is school policy and is for the safety of the students.
--------------------------------------
Spelling
Spelling Tests are on Friday. The new words for the following week's test
will be copied into the student's Spelling Notebook after they take their
test on Friday. Therefore, Spelling Notebooks MUST BE BROUGHT BACK TO SCHOOL
ON TEST DAY! They will then return home with the new set of words that same
day.

Schedule of Events in Social Studies
This is generally how things will run in Social Studies class for the current
school year. Please understand that when the class is working on a project,
there may be a break in this schedule.
· Vocabulary will be introduced for the new chapter/unit on the first
day. These words and their definitions will be written in the Social Studies
notebook. The notebook will come home to be used for studying purposes at
home.
· There will be a quiz on these vocabulary words approximately a week
and a half to two weeks later. Please make sure your child is studying the
words at home. We do review them each day at the start of class. No retakes
or corrections will be allowed on Vocabulary quizzes.
· A Study Guide for the Chapter/Unit test will come home about 4 days
ahead of the scheduled test. STUDENTS need to fill in the answers on the
study guide. I will generally send the study guide home the first night for
them to TRY filling in as much as they can WITHOUT their books. This is a
good way for you to judge how well they are paying attention in class. The
books will come home the following night for the students to go back and fill
in the rest of the answers. Hopefully there will not be many to fill in on
day two.
· The Study Guide should come with the students to school EVERYDAY! We
will go over all the correct answers for it during class. They do not have
time to be writing every single answer in during this review. It is simply a
time to check over the answers. What is the point of a study guide if the
students are studying the wrong information?
· On test day, students must turn in the completed study guide. If
they have lost it, they may call another student from class the night before
the test to get the information. They are not allowed to copy this
information during school hours especially during another class. I will
accept a handwritten study guide. However, if the student loses it, I will
not give them a second one. I am in the process of finding out if I can post
the study guides on my TeachWeb. I will let you know if this becomes
possible.
· Tests will be graded and returned to the student to be signed by the
parent within two days of taking the test. Please ask your student for the
test so you are aware of their grades.
· One of the things I would like for students to practice this year is
being responsible. In all the social studies classes we have been or will be
learning about being a good citizen. Part of being a good citizen is being
responsible. Therefore, I feel if the students are paying attention and
actively participating in classroom discussions and activities, they will be
a responsible learner. As a result, these students (with the use of the
chapter/unit study guide) should have no problem doing well in Social
Studies. I do not expect all students to have perfect grades. However, I do
feel it is fairly easy to obtain passing grades in Social Studies this year.
· With that being said, I understand that once in while we all have
days that we aren’t at our best due to other things occurring in life outside
of school (and work for us adults). Sometimes we do need a chance to redo
some thing that we know we could have done better. I have decided that I
will allow each student to make corrections on ONE test per quarter. Here
are the criteria for making corrections on that ONE test:
o Corrections are allowed on tests in which the student received a
score of a “D” or lower on the original test (the percentage score would be
anything lower than a 75%).
o The test MUST be signed by you the parent.
o Corrections are due the very next day after the test has been
returned to the student. (Example: If the test is returned to the student on
Tuesday, the signed test with the corrections are due on Wednesday.)
o Not only do students need to mark the correct answer with a different
color leaving the original answer alone, but also the page number of where
they found the correct answer in the textbook must be listed next to that
question.
The day after the chapter/unit test is taken we will begin again at the top
of this rotation.
