                              November Newsletter

I am hoping that November is going to go more smoothly than October. I would
like to get on schedule with word lists. We will continue to write and will
honor our veterans. We will also begin singing our National Anthem after the
Pledge of Allegience. I am a very serious patriotic person so I will insist
on respect. Thanksgiving will be all about giving thanks for all we have and
remembering those who aren’t so fortunate. Right before Thanksgiving we
will have parent conferences and progress reports.
In math we will do more with tally marks and begin counting by fives.
Science is still Fall Foods and corn and pumpkins will be the featured items.
We had taken a detour with bats and owls but we have returned to the main
route.
Social studies will be about Pilgrims among other things.
Please continue to practice words even though they have been tested on them.
This increases fluency.
If you know of any veterans in our parish please jot down their names and
send them in. If we have not already honored them I will use them this year.
I would like to take this time to wish you all a very blessed Thanksgiving
holiday. I am thankful to each of you for choosing to send your child to me
and trusting me with their academic and spiritual learning.
P.S. Many of the students are in need of glue sticks. Ask your child if
he/she needsmore.

Kindergarten Newsletter
                                  OCTOBER

It will be a very busy month with lots of fun projects, plus there are 2 days
that we are not in session. They are Oct. 12th and the 24th. The children have
probably told you that I have become a slave driver and that they don’t get
much free play and I make them work and sweat! It is all true but not quite so
dramatic. They are moving out of the preschool stage and into kindergarten.
Oh, my gosh we have to WRITE and READ! So now that we have met Letter Light A
we are beginning to sound out words using the letters we have learned. We
will meet Letters H, P, and F this month so watch for all of the new words.
Also I will add “sight and/or high frequency words. Word binders will
generally come home on Friday or Monday and need to be back at school on
Thursdays so that I can test the students. Ask your child to say his/her words
every night. Every Thursday or Friday I will test them on the words and as I
keep reminding them, PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!

In Science we have finished up with the 5 senses have begun our unit on fall
foods which will include apples, pumpkins, popcorn and corn. As popcorn is one
of my favorite foods they will be sick of it by the time we are through.

We are completing our chapter in patterns and will begin working on
more/less/fewer and recognition of numbers higher than 10. We will soon be
working on plane shapes and their attributes.

Some items of interest:
*Please send a spoon or fork with your child’s
food my supplies are becoming limited.
*Girls need to wear shorts under their dresses
*A school sweater/sweatshirt is needed in class

Regarding Halloween…more information will come home as the day gets closer but
please remember that all treats must be individually wrapped. There are 25
students in our class. The current plan is to make treat bags at some point
prior to the 31st. On Halloween in the afternoon we will have a treat and
drink, either play a game or watch a movie, and create a spooky craft. We will
then line up the treat bags and anyone that brought a treat can put then in
each bag.

As always feel free to contact me at the school number or my email
address. (teacherhummel@yahoo.com) Thanks to all of you that have contacted me
and given me your email addresses. This makes contact easier and I also know
that my notes aren’t lost in the bookbags.

We will also begin to use the Land of the Letter People map.
