Week of Nov.9, 2009
Your child may bring a healthy snack daily to my class. Please make sure that
it is finger-food and not a spoon & fork situation. Also, water bottles are
allowed. Hydration helps promote good brian wave activity!!!
Grade 4 - Mrs. Olley's Homeroom:
Spelling: Unit 13. This unit covers compound word forms Pgs.90-95
The workbook pages are checked on Thursdays - Sentences on Tuesdays. (see
below)
Every Tuesday I will check their composition books for ten spelling sentences.
The sentences can be on any ten words, in cursive with the words underlined.
Please be aware - and check for this assignment each week. When we do not
have class on Mondays, the sentences will be due on Wednesdays.Please note
that some of the class is now doing enrichment word lists, they will need to
use these words in their sentences.
Reading: The Midnight Fox pgs 171-191 . Please read and
review. Vocab will be introduced in class. Orally reading scores will be
given weekly, please be prepared to read orally. I will be grading for:
fluency, articulation, inflection & comprehension of materials.
Religion: Chapter 8 The Ten Commandments pgs 95-106 The following vocab
words will be given:
covenant, Ten Commandments, Moses, Old Testament. Study Guide will be sent
home along with the Religion book to review Chapter 8. I will give them the
review test on Friday 11/13
English Gr 4: Unit 3 - Verbs Pgs 100-105 Lessons 3 & 4 This is on Past
Present & Future Tenses and subject-verb agreements. There will be a quiz on
Thursday 11/12.
Every Wednesday we have reteach and review on the weekly lessons - usually on
the Smartboard.These lessons can be reviewed on-line at my web page link, or
the books can go home daily.
English Gr 3: Unit 3 - Verbs Pgs 102-105 Lessons 3 & 4. Verb Tenses.
There will be a quiz on Thursday 11/12. Books will be sent home daily. See
web-site link for on-line review, or use extra practice located at the end of
the Unit in your child's English book.
English Gr 2: Unit 4 Writing A Creative Story. I will be using special
handouts to help my second grade students write a short story. There are no
tests or quizzes this week. However, there will be some help needed at home
for the stories to be finalized. Check your child's student daily planner.

English books can go home at any time - I will always send them home before
tests & quizzes.
All Tests, Quizzes, And Papers Receiving a Letter Grade Must Be Signed And
Returned The Next Day.
Quizzes will be a routine part of English Class. It helps me to see if they
are retaining information leading up to the Unit Test. Quizzes may be given
at any time as a tool to evaluate a student's retention of materials taught.
