Watch this space for a weekly update of all of the English classes in grades 5-8 and eighth grade reading, religion, and spelling.
NOVEMBER 9-13, 2009
RELIGION-8 We will write our respect life letters to our Congressmen, and then's it's onto Unit 2 and the first chapter on Baptism and Confirmation. The students will even create a wanted poster this week.
SPELLING-8 Unit 13 is on words often confused. The test is Friday.
READING-8 Our comprehension test on HATCHET began the week. Now it's onto creating our games based on the novel.
For November the students will be reading the community book NOTES FROM THE MIDNIGHT DRIVER for their library book. Our book report will be in the form of little Christmas trees. Those were on the students' desks on Monday morning.
ENGLISH-8 Our personal narrative unit has led us to a discussion of proverbs. Watch for one of our little magic books to come your way once we create our own versions of these. Then it's onto several interesting lessons on denotation and connotation. We even may spend some time on sequencing and listening.
ENGLISH-7 The pronoun unit has officially begun. We will cover some of the similar topics as last year including pronouns and their antecedents, subject and object pronouns, and pronouns after linking verbs. Hopefully, you got the copy of the autobiography section of the outline we did in class and the directions.
The outline we completed in class has been saved on my classroom computer. If any of the students needs to doublecheck anything, they are welcome to come in anytime.
ENGLISH-6 We are tackling action verbs, helping and main verbs, direct objects, and transitive and intransitive verbs. Some of the skills are new to use this year, but I have great faith in this group.
WRITING WORKSHOP-6 No class due to holiday.
ENGLISH-5 Our focus this week will be reviewing for our noun test on Friday. We will work especially hard on possessive nouns.
WRITING WORKSHOP 5- We are working on the writing skill-show don't tell.
WRITING WORKSHOP 4- No class-holiday.
