Curriculum

 Phonics
The children will learn a letter a week. If there are three days or less in
a week that week will be a review. Starting in October, the children will
have 10-12 flash cards they need to learn for the week. The flash cards
will be handed out on Monday. The children will have until the following
Monday to learn the words. If there is no school on Monday the flash cards
will be handed out on Tuesday and the children will have until the next
Monday to learn the words. We will also work on these words at school, so
please send the flash cards to school each day.

Reading
Starting in October, the children will have a book to read that corresponds
with the flash cards they will be learning for that week. One week the
students will receive a book to keep. These books will be read at home as
well as at school. These books will need to come back to school each day.
The next week the children will receive a book that will be left at school.

Handwriting
The children will practice correct formations of letters throughout the
year. Each week the explanation of the formation of the letters will be
sent home on Monday. Each night, except for Friday, the children will have
handwriting homework. If the child cannot finish their homework at home
they may bring it to school the next day and finish it at recess. If
possible, please have your child do their handwriting at a table.

Centers
Each week there will be three 30-minute times set for center work. During
center time the children will review previous concepts they have learned.
There will be some centers that will have papers that come home for you to
view and other centers will only be hands-on activities. We will not have
centers on the day we go to mass.
