How much homework can I expect?
Monday through Thursday you can expect about 45 minutes per evening
depending
how quickly your child completes homework in class and at home. There
will be no homework on the weekends. However, if there is a project, your
child may work over the weekend to complete the homework project.
Do fourth graders still bring a morning snack?
Yes, fourth graders, even myself love that mid morning snack! They will
have
recess from 10:00 - 10:15. After recess, when the students come indoors,we
will then wash hands and enjoy the morning snack.
Do fourth graders still share birthday treats?
Fourth graders love to share in birthday snacks. There are 13 students in
the class, and you may wish to send one for your child's kindergarten buddy.
Make sure that the treats are prepackaged or bought from the bakery.
Remember, no drinks. Thanks! However, it is fine if you choose not to send
a
treat. We will still celebrate with your child on this special day!
Should your child buy his/her buddy a gift?
It is best not to do that during school time. Not everyone is able to do
the
gift giving, nor does the kindergarten child understand when he/she does not
receive something. Therefore, Mrs. Fruth and I discourage gift giving at
the holiday time unless it is discreetly done. If so, we will send the
package down to be placed in the child's backpack. Please mark the gift
clearly with your child's name as the gift giver.
When does the Accellerated Reading Program begin?
We will begin this program after Labor Day. Information will be coming
about
what to expect this year in fourth grade.
What is the grading scale for fourth graders?
Please direct your attention to pg. 12 of the handbook for details on the
grading scale.
Do fourth graders have book reports?
This year, I am taking a different approach to book reports. I want
students to focus on the joy of reading for fun not frustrated because they
have to have an end result of a book report. However, at times we may work
on a class report on a read aloud book.
How do you grade homework?
A majority of the homework grades are not recorded in my grade book as it is
a review from what has been taught during the day. Homework is a practice
and review for the evening. However, independent work in class and papers
assigned during classroom time will be recorded along with all quizzes and
tests. Papers and tests completed in class need to be carefully attended to
and need to be turned in on time. Classroom work that is not handed in on
time will be issued a late grade.
When are tests taken?
You can start to review with your child as we near the end of the chapter.
I will always give 2-3 days notice when the test will be given. I do not
give tests on Monday unless it is a math assessment. However, there may be
times when an easy or hard test may be given on the same day. For example,
spelling and religion tests may be given on the same day. I always take
into
consideration what is going on at the time when tests are given. Spelling
tests are always given on Friday unless there is no school on that day. If
there is no school, the test will be given on Thursday.
