What Have We Been Up To?

Watch this space for a weekly update of all of the English classes in grades 5-8 and eighth grade reading, religion, and spelling.

NOVEMBER 23-25, 2009

RELIGION-8   We will take our quiz on Chapter 5 on Baptism and Confirmation.  Then we will begin working on various Advent acivities.  Advent begins on Sunday, Nov. 29.

SPELLING-8   No spelling this week

READING-8    We will play our games this week.  Our new novel, JEREMY VISICK, continues to get stranger and stranger.  We will be about halfway through the book by Wednesday.  I have extra copies if any parent would be interested in reading it.
For November the students will be reading the community book NOTES FROM THE MIDNIGHT DRIVER for their library book.  Our book report will be in the form of little Christmas trees.  They have the trees.

ENGLISH-8  Our personal narrative unit has led to working on studying dialogue this week.  Again,  this shouldn't be too hard for us since we have covered it in Writing Worshop last year.  I have created several SmartBoard lessons on the writing skills as refreshers for the students.  And if a students is absent, these are a great way to review what we have done.
Sentence Test 11-12 is Wednesday.  The JR. HIGH WRITER entries are due Wednesday-the Americana poem and the grandparent poem.  Don't forget the information sheet.

ENGLISH-7   After a review in a book that counts as a quiz, we will move onto demonstrative and indefinite pronouns.
The autobiography outline we completed in class has been saved on my classroom computer.  If any of the students needs to doublecheck anything, they are welcome to come in anytime.

ENGLISH-6   We will work on verb tenses this week as well as complete a review in the book that counts as a quiz.  Before the students tackle that, I created a SmartBoard review on transitive and intransitive verbs and being and linking verbs.  Those gave us a little bit of trouble!

WRITING WORKSHOP-6 We will share our strong verb stories and complete our entries for THE MESSENGER's Christmas spirit writing contest.

ENGLISH-5 We have begun our verb unit with action verbs and direct objects.  If time, we will move onto main verbs and helping verbs.

WRITING WORKSHOP 5-  We are working on the writing skill-show don't tell-and completing our entries for THE MESSENGER's Christmas spirit writing contest.

WRITING WORKSHOP 4-  We will complete our entries for THE MESSENGER's Christmas spirit writing contest.
