What Have We Been Up To?

Watch this space for a weekly update of all of the English classes in grades 5-8 and eighth grade reading, religion, and spelling.

DECEMBER 15-18, 2009

RELIGION-8   Advent is again our focus this week as we read about Weeks 3 and 4 in our religion book, discuss this week's Sunday's gospel, and complete questions on Advent and the Christmas season.

SPELLING-8   Unit 17 is on words often misspelled.

READING-8    After the JEREMY VISICK comprehension test, the students will have time to read their December library book, work on their December book report, and work on the vocabulary definitions for THE GIVER, the novel we will start in January.

ENGLISH-8  After taking Sentence Edit Test13-14, we will be working on our personal narratives all week.

ENGLISH-7   This week we will work on homophones and do a little review on the units we have covered thus far this year.  There will be a homophone quiz on Thursday.
The autobiography outline we completed in class has been saved on my classroom computer.  If any of the students needs to doublecheck anything, they are welcome to come in anytime.

ENGLISH-6   We will work on contractions and those tricky verbs-sit, set, lie, lay, raise, and rise.  There will be an irregular verb quiz on Thursday.  Students should study the charts on pages 139-141.

WRITING WORKSHOP-6 -------

ENGLISH-5 We will finish up the lesson on writing with verbs, study contractions, and work on subject-verb agreement.
