Homework

Home-Work is Home-Talk

I will not be handing out homework to our Pre-K 4 students, for they will have many opportunities to practice their literacy and math skills throughout the day in large group, small group, and individual settings.  We will be doing hands-on, manipulative work that is developmentally appropriate.

I will, however, send home OPTIONAL “Home-Talk” assignments.  This will be marked on my classroom calendar.  There will also be a note on the calendar for when the Home-Talk should be returned to school.  So what exactly is Home-Talk?  Home-Talk will inform you of our current thematic unit of study and what types of activities we are doing in the classroom.  I will then provide a prompt that you will share with your child so that the two of you can engage in a conversation about what we are doing in school!  I will then provide a space for you to record what you and your child discussed and you can attach any pictures or artifacts that you find important.  Finally, once the Home-Talk is returned to school, your child will have an opportunity to share his/her Home-Talk with classmates.  It will also be displayed in the room!
