First Grade Weekly News

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

ü     Literacy Stations: students will continue to focus on the reading strategy of asking questions.

ü     Phonics: students will continue to identify pictures and write words that contain the sound of long vowel /a/. Students will also apply knowledge of the long vowel /a/ sound to complete sentences.

ü     Mathstudents will understand the “What’s My Rule” routine, as well as practice finding the output for given rules and input numbers. Students will also be assessed on progress of mathematical content through the end of unit 5.

ü     Religion: students will continue to understand the Christmas season as the time in which we celebrate the birth of the Son of God. Students will apply this through mini skits that they create with groups.

ü     Spelling: students will review words from lessons 14-18. The test is on Wednesday, December 16th. Please help your child review all of the words, as only 15 will be chosen randomly for the test.

ü     Santa’s Helper’s Secret Workshop:

 

ü     Play and Pray Bible: Jesus’ Birth

ü     Poem of the Week: Christmas Poem

ü     Sight Words for the Week: but, some, friend, on.  It is important that your child not only knows how to read each word, but also knows how to apply each word in a sentence.

ü     Word Family: students will continue to understand the word family -uck; with the story The Day Duck’s Truck Got stuck, by Maria Flemming.
