I’m still trying to figure that one out. But I do know WHOSE I am. Predestined
to be a teacher, I was born and raised in Evanston to two teaching parents.
However, it took me five years at Howard University and two years in Japan to
really tap into my teaching potential. I see teaching not as a job, rather, a
gift. Like any gift if not nurtured, practiced and used it will be lost. I
wholeheartedly believe in being a student of teaching thus studying and
incorporating Jim Fay’s Love & Logic in the classroom (in case you were
wondering, I’m using Love & Logic on you right now).
I’m a hardcore 80s baby working extremely hard to collect all those Saturday
Morning Cartoons, classic 80s sitcoms and Hiphop songs (only ’79-’85 Hiphop,
not the hiphopocracy poison on the airwaves now) I know and love. Here’s a
list of the sports I don’t play to make it easer: rugby (bad experience,
dislocated hip first game in Japan), waterpolo, hockey and soccer. Everything
else is fair game (pun intended). I love Macs, hate…no, hate is such a strong
word...I strongly disagree with PCs, their operating system, limited
functionality and lack of coolness.
With that being said, that’s what I am about. If you have any questions,
comments, concerns, suggestions, feedback, opinions or critiques feel free to
let me know.
This is a tech-savvy, interactivity-driven, computer-friendly generation and
as their Mac teacher I stand in accordance with what God told Hosea: “my
people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Our slogan “An Apple a day
keep the viruses away” holds true to this class because we are using Macs
and the virus we’re trying to prevent is ignorance. I hope and will encourage
them to use and see Macs as a resource/educational tool used to complement their
normal curriculum and not just a “cool” computer.
